Smoothie Series: The Ultimate Chocolate Quick Fixfeatured

Ever have crazy chocolate cravings? The cravings that are so unbearable that if you don’t do something about it soon, you seriously will end up eating everything in sight? I do. Sometimes, I’ll give in to some good old chocolate, but other times, I end up making something like this smoothie. This smoothie is the answer to all of your chocolate prayers, trust me.

This drink has the most amazing and velvety texture, as if some ice cream was thrown into the mix. The secret, however, is avocado. Avocados are high in monounsaturated fats, which is what allows them to provide such richness in these types of recipes. However, Don’t fear this fat! They are quite beneficial in moderation, and some studies have shown them to lower cholesterol levels. Fat should never be seen as an enemy, many countries who eat high in unsaturated fats (like in the avocado) have shown to have better health status compared to other countries! If you aren’t a huge fan of avocado, this smoothie is still right for you, as it doesn’t taste like avocados at all. Instead, it has a rich chocolate taste thanks to cocoa powder. Cocoa is another one of those power foods, with tannins working as antioxidants to protect you against all sorts of scary stuff, cancer being one of them.

A few key ingredients in this smoothie are essential for making the chocolate flavor stand out. Cinnamon and bananas are important ingredients in helping the cocoa be the star of this drink. They complement the drink without overpowering the taste. The frozen strawberries help to cool the drink down while adding texture and flavor.

So, whenever you have your next day or evening off, take the time to enjoy the summer weather and settle in with this drink, you seriously will not regret it!

Summer Berry and Chocolate Smoothie

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:
1 ½ cups milk*
½ cup strawberries (frozen)
¼ cup bananas (frozen, optional)
1 avocado
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp maple syrup (or any liquid sweetener)
¼ tsp cinnamon

Directions:
1. Throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!

*Sometimes, the consistency of the smoothie is slighty too thick. If this is the case, simply add more milk until it reaches your desired consistency.

Now, all that needs to be done is to pour this drink into 2 glasses, or 1 large glass (I won’t judge), and drink up! This drink is sure to remind you to relax and enjoy summer… while it is still around.
